This wek I've been reading about podcasting... and reading the techie blog w/ lots of info... and looking at podcast possibilities... and ...my computer has windows 2000... media player works ... nothing else...so I will test some of these things Saturday on a pub computer before the library opens.

I waited to comment until I saw whether or not you resolved this. If you don't have speakers on the computer you're using, podcasts probably aren't going to be very effective. You might be able to watch a silent video podcast.
Windows Media Player should work just fine. If you stick with audio podcasts, these are pretty simple MP3 files.
Another snag point might be Bloglines. It wasn't designed to be a podcast aggregator but since these are really just RSS feeds with audio files included, it can work in a pinch. If you decide you'd like to subscribe to some podcasts and listen to them on an on-going basis you'll want to get a podcast aggregator like iTunes or Juice.
